Keokuk, IA Geode Dig

5:30 every one came back
down from the mine so we could head back for the Geode cracking party at the
Hickory Haven Campground. We all went to where they where staying to clean up
then meet at the campground around 6:30 PM. We got to the campground and it
started to rain. So it was poring cats and dogs with high winds and everything.
It was a good thing they have a shelter there. Everyone brought food to share
and we all talked about how we did for the day and of our digging past of where
we went to find rocks. After we eat Everett had a drawing for some prizes (I
didn’t win any) After that was done Everett got out his Geode cracker and folks
brought him Geodes that they wanted him to crack open to see what was in side of
them. We said our good byes and all and headed back to the motel. We packed up
most of our stuff for we where leaving for home that next morning.

Well 6:00 AM rolled around
and I got up to put the rest of our stuff in the van for long trip home. We meet
the ones that were left and showed up at the Café to eat and have some coffee
before we was to hit the road. At 9:00 AM we said our good byes and were off for
WI. I wanted to run the Mississippi river back to the Lead mining area of WI.
At Davenport, ILL it started to rain lightly and it did this on and off the rest
of the way to WI. It was a longer trip back then I thought it would be. We got
in to WI around 3:00 PM and we had another 4 hours to home yet. I didn’t have
time to check out for some old Lead Mines in the area for we were running out of
time. It was raining all the way home. We stopped in to Stevens Point for supper
at 6:30 PM. We pulled in to the yard at 8:17 PM it was colder here then it is in
IA for sure.
