Trip to the UP of Michigan November 9th
2012.
At 6 AM we headed to the
UP of Michigan for a fun filled day with our good friends Dennis & Janice
Laubenstein. We wanted to stop at Kingsley North for dome lapidary stuff then on
to the Champion Mine for some neat rocks. Our first stop was at the cafe in
Crivitz, WI for some breakfast. They had a good buffet that Randy and I had,
Janice had a waffle with blueberries on it and Dennis had eggs and toast.
We got to Norway, MI Around 10:15 AM and bought a few things that we
need.
We got the Champion Mine
around 12:00 noon and Janice couldn’t believe it that I could find it LOL. I was
to this mine several times so finding it was no trouble at all. We spent around
2 hours finding good rocks to bring home and cut. The big pile of
Specular Hematite was now gone from here so we had to look in the
tailing piles to find anything. Randy found a real nice one with Pyrite in it.
Around 2:00 PM we decided we better head for home for it was over 5 hours to get
there. We stopped at Watersmeat for supper at the Casino and man the food was
great.
