Presidents Message
Hi all.
I was pleased with the turnout at
the metal detecting outing this year, we had several new members there to
detect. The weather was a little warm but there was no rain and everyone was
eager to hunt. Im sorry I didn't get to visit with everyone there I got to
wrapped up in digging. By the time I got around to taking a group picture
some had already left.
The next outing is to Nugget Lake on June 16 I hope you can make it and get
down to the creek after the meeting. As I write this it is around 90 degrees
I hope it cools down some by the 16th. The heat make it miserable digging.
Im hoping to get out tomorrow early to do my own digging at Nugget but if I
don't get up early enough to get there by 8:30 Im afraid it will get to hot
to spend a lot of time on the creek. Its over a two hour drive from
Marshfield to nugget and it hardly seems worth it for only a half a day but
I got the itch to prospect. Got my mom's lawn mowed today and split all the
wood I had in my yard now its time to play. I can mow my lawn Monday.
See you in the creeks Mike Fait

Tomah Wisconsin GPAA Chapter Minutes May 19, 2018
Old Business:
The May meeting was held at Viroqua - Nine members showed up for the metal
detecting hunt just outside of Viroqua. The site was currently a hayfield
but formerly was a site for three houses. The only coin found here was an
Indian head cent I believe it was 1903? Found by Richard Niemyjski real
early in the day.
Wayne Ellefson sr. found a token good for three ten cent bars of lava soap
for 15 cents, he also found what we think was a watch fob with an old horse
plow pictured on it. The rest of us found mostly iron and aluminum.
It was a warm morning and the sun was shining all day. After noon we moved
to Esofea Park to try our luck. Wayne found two memorial cents and Mike Fait
found two dimes, by this time the sun and heat was wearing us down and we
didn't do a lot of hunting at the park. We called it a day and had a good
talk in the parking lot before we all went home.
New
Business:
Next month June 16 is our Nugget Lake outing.
Bring a dish to pass, it is $5 a carload to enter the park. We have
the pavilion down by the lake reserved for lunch. We will be eating around
noon, followed be a short meeting and then to the creek.
The number for Nugget Lake is 715-639-5611. The club will be cooking brats,
hotdogs, and hamburgers. We also will supply soda and water.
Bring you prospecting gear as this
is one of the best panning spots in the state. No motorized equipment is
allowed. Sluces, pans and rockers are OK. The gold here is almost all flower
size but plentiful.
Raffles:
No raffles were held.
Gold
Price on 5/28/18 was $1,297.20
Silver Price on 5/28/18 was $16.49
