President’s Message
The Nugget Lake outing was
very hot starting on Friday when I got there it was already in the 90s. I
went to the creek for some concentrates for the meeting for new members to
pan. The creek was very low and somewhat clear. The mosquitos were very bad.
Then it rained all of Friday night and the creeks came up two feet and were
very brown. Saturday morning I awoke to the sound of chainsaws and some
trees went down during the night about two campsites from mine. Trees were
also down by the shelter where we had out meeting.
We were able to work three sluces in
the same rapids. Richard Niemyjski and Jeff Hasting worked together in a
very productive hole. Dave Ambroes dug behind some grass clumps and found
gold. Larry Bender worked a slight bend in the creek, and I worked a hole
dead center in the creek. It was so hot that when it rained on us no one put
on a rain coat. The heat soon exhausted us and we went back to camp for the
night.
The next day the creek was
down quite a bit and Dave and I worked the hole Richard and Jeff started the
day before. Most of the gold I got was extremely fine I ended up with 129
pieces from that hole. It soon got hot again and I had to get my camper out
of the park. I left the river about noon. Larry called me Monday to tell me
that about two hours later a hugh dead tree fell into the hole we were
working and injured Dave striking him in the shoulder and head. They had to
help him out of the creek and carry his equipment for him back up the hill
he then left for home. If I find out his status I will let everyone know
about it!
Larry stayed Sunday night he said
the park received another 6'' of rain and more trees went down in the park
during the night. The creek then was almost up to the bottom of the first
bridge by the parking area. Probably up10 feet. Since Larry’s tent and
sleeping bag was wet he came home early too!
Now for a little personal story. On
my way to Nugget the truck I was driving lost a back tire. I heard a bang
and thought I blew one of my new tires, as I pulled my truck and camper over
I saw my tire pass me on the driver’s side of highway 10. Luckily no one was
coming from the other way. The tire rolled across the highway into and thru
a corn field up a small hill into a yard just missing a small building and
climbing a hill to stop by a tire sandbox and then roll back down the hill
back into the cornfield. I didn't have any lug nuts left on that side of the
truck all eight came loose. I needed a tow into Durand as I was only two
miles out. It took over two and a half hours for them to fix the threads on
the wheel and find new lug nuts.
There are more stories from this
weekend but they shouldn't be put in print as some people might be
embarrassed. But I saw them in the creek Mike

Old Business:
The May meeting was held at Nugget Lake - Only 10 members at the picnic
mostly due to the weather.
We talked about another outing to nugget on Sept 22 it wouldn't be a picnic
but a group dig where all the concentrates would be split evenly with all
the participants.
More discussion on this at the July 21 meeting.
New
Business:
Next month July 21 will be a normal meeting at Lagrange Town Hall in Tomah.
Bring a dish to pass.
Injury Update - I talked to
Dave Ambroes last night he still can't lift his arm over shoulder high. Had
a laceration to his head and neck but they are good now. He doesn't want to
go to a hospital yet but did go to a chiropractor they told him no broken
bones maybe just a deep bruise If it doesn't get any belter then he would
have to see a doctor. He was in good spirits but still sore.
