President’s Message

We had a great turnout at the Rudolph gold mine metal detecting outing. The weather was actually too warm, when was the last time we could say that. We didn't find any great artifacts but we gave it a good try. I was surprised to see members from as far away as Milwaukee and Philips. I am glad you could join us. Those that still had energy left after fighting the swamp went to Marshfield to continue detecting. I think everyone found some coins at the park. I got a little too much sun that day as did some of the others.

Went panning the next day in the Neillsville area and got about 10 micro specs.

I am still recovering from my detached retina, it is slowly getting better maybe in another month I will be able to see clear. Now the Doctors are worried that my eye pressure is too high and I need to go in and go thru a glaucoma screening. If things keep going like this I may not be able to go to Thermal City time will tell.

Now that the weather has improved it is time to get out to the streams again and look for that beautiful metal gold. I will be in site #51 at Nugget Lake again this year.

Larry helped me set up my panning table in the back yard last Sunday, now I can start cleaning my gold bags I accumulated over the winter.

See you in the creeks Mike Fait

Old Business:

The April meeting was held at the outing to the old gold mine in Rudolph, WI.

The weather was actually a little warm for our outing to Rudolph for the gold mine detecting. 14 members showed up to detect at Rudolph, or just to watch.  The winter snow did not flatten the grass as hoped for. It was hard detecting in the grass and shrubs, there was water in most of the area.

No earth shaking finds on the hunt. One tailings pile was found. Johan Riel dug up some of the rocks there and found some gold in a clump 5 specks were visible. Rodney Kenyon found 3 pieces of wire. Bob Wysocky found an iron stained quarts, and a wire. Larry and Diane Kollins found a 6'' piece of a bolt. Jeff Hastings found a 1983 quarter and a piece of lead from a 22. Richard Niemyjski found a flattened aluminum cup. Gerry Westphal found a 12' cable that he did not completely unearth. Mike Fait found a piece of wire. After combing the area for 2 hours it was decided to go to Marshfield and detect in the park. Larry Bender joined us there and immediately found a 1934 mercury dime followed shortly thereafter by a 1927 wheat penny. All those who hunted at the park found coins. The park was very busy as it was the first really beautiful day of summer. It was decided to return to Marshfield in October for another metal detecting outing at the park.

New Business:

May’s meeting will be on the 3rd Saturday of May the 21st at 1:00 pm at the Town Hall at the Town of Lagrange, 22731 Flint Ave. on Route #2 1 west of Tomah Wisconsin.   Please bring a dish to pass for lunch.

Gold Price on 5/7/16 was $1,287.70                Silver Price on 5/7/16 was $17.44
