President’s Message

Hi everyone

It’s been a long time since I've seen most of you. We've had two outing since April. The first was a metal detecting outing in Tomah. Twelve members come to hunt the fairgrounds and a park. The weather was perfect in fact it was probably the first warm weather anyone had seen in a while from all the people we saw out fishing and sunning themselves. I think everyone found some coins and other oddities a toy gun, lots of pull tabs and Jeff Hastings found a silver cross.

I didn't make it to South Dakota but from what I have heard and seen they had plenty of water and a nice turnout. Most people found some color too. Better the first time out there.

Gayle and I went to Alaska to Dean Races claims on the forty mile river. It was cool 30's in the nights and mid 60s during the warmest days. I was recovering from a cat bit and a pulled hamstring and kind of took it easy the first several days there. I then started running a highbanker dredge using it as a 3'' dredge for 3 days. When I thought I was ready I moved up to a 4'' dredge. I long armed it the first two days then moved up to a hookah when the hole got to deep. Never did reach the bottom in the hole as the river dropped leaving the dredge on top of the tailings pile. That day Kurt Bublitz set the highbanker up and we shoveled for three hours. I only ran one tank of gas a day on anything that I worked on and it still beat me up I must be getting old!

I haven't cleaned up anything smaller than twenty mesh yet. I did clean up my snuffer bottle after I was home for a week and got 1900 pieces of gold out of it I'm probably over two grams now.

We saw moose almost every day and even thou I didn't see it only a picture a grizzly walked down the far side of the river one morning.

Don't forget mid-state annual hunt in Nekoosa July 24,25,26

See you in the creeks, Mike Fait

Tomah Wisconsin GPAA Chapter Minutes May, June 2015

Old Business:

The May, June meetings were outings so no report.

On a very sad note Dennis Lauberstein passed away Friday May 22, 1015.  Dennis was a very outgoing and caring individual who loved to prospect and share his talents with those around him.  He will truly be missed and our hearts and prayers go out to Janice.  The Wausau club fall outing will be dedicated in a memorial to honor Dennis and Don (joint land owner) October 9th – 11th at Parish.  It will be similar to the Spring Outing.  All activities will take place on Saturday the 10th.

New Business:

July’s meeting will be on the 3rd Saturday of July on the 18th at 1:00 pm at the Town Hall at the Town of Lagrange, 22731 Flint Ave. on Route #21 west of Tomah Wisconsin.   Please bring a dish to pass for lunch.

Richard Powell is needing gold pans for demonstrating at veterans groups.  Please bring any that you would like to donate to the May meeting and give to Mike.
